To Apply, or Not to Apply

Being a member of Glossop MRT is rewarding and you will have the satisfaction of providing a professional service that saves lives. Team members also enjoy good camaraderie and benefit from extensive training in mountain rescue techniques.

Membership carries with it a responsibility and the commitment to attend regular training, team meetings and callouts at any time day or night should not be taken lightly. However, we find most employers and all families extremely supportive of our work.

As well as a monthly meeting and training session and the 6 winter exercises, we would expect that members attend all callouts unless they have a work or important commitment elsewhere. Remember that your attendance could help save a life.

Why not email us your name and telephone number and we'll call you back for an informal chat so you can find out more about the benefits and commitments of team membership?

To apply to join please read the following notes and fill in the form at the bottom of this page.

GMRT MEMBERSHIP

There are three levels of membership

  1. Prospective member
  2. Probationary member
  3. Full team member

1. Prospective member

Following receipt of your application you will be contacted by the team leader or deputy who will arrange an initial assessment with you. This will consist of a walk of approx 2 hrs in part of our operational area to assess your level of fitness and mountaineering competency. During this time you will be able to discuss aspects of Mountain Rescue and the expectations that team membership will impact upon you. If you have any concerns do not hesitate to contact us.

Note- you do not need any formal qualifications to join the team.

2. Probationary member

A prospective member becomes a probationary member after passing the initial assessment. Probationary members will be expected to:

3. Full Team Member

A probationary member becomes a full team member after:

A full team member is then added to the Call Out list and is entitled to:

A full member may ask to be temporarily withdrawn from the call out list for a period of up to 12 months without losing full team membership entitlements subject to review by the committee. This may be useful when you change job for example and you need extra time at work.
If a period of more than 12 months is required off the call out list the individual will revert to a probationary member, or if deemed necessary by the team leader a prospective member.

4. Maintaining full team membership

All team members must continue to satisfy the current GMRT commitment requirements for attendance at call outs, exercises, team training and other GMRT events for their level of membership. The committee will review each member's commitment at six monthly intervals and where necessary, recommend to the team that an individual's membership be revoked due to lack of commitment, or on any other grounds deemed appropriate by the committee.
